This is a series of interviews of the distinguished mathematicians who have visited Taiwan. I initiated the program soon after I moved back to Taiwan and became a permanent member of the Institute of Mathematics at Academia Sinica in 2000. These interviews have been translated into Chinese and published in MathMedia over the years under the Chinese heading 有朋自遠方來. This heading is taken from the opening phrase of The Analects of Confucius "有朋自遠方來, 不亦悦乎! Friends Coming From Far Away, Isn't It A Delight!" My Taiwanese colleagues and I would like to thank these friends from far away for agreeing to have these interviews and then for taking their time to review the texts. I also want to thank the staff of the Institute of Mathematics for their kind help.     Tai-Ping Liu
