ABSTRACT
We present a derivation, based on asymptotic analysis of Arsen’yev’s second order
ordinary differential equation, for the propagation of a boundary layer where thermal in-
version occurs. The equation we obtained has one more free parameter $U_0$ than Arsen’yev’s
original ODE. Our analysis suggests that this ODE is only a first order closure in what
could be a hierarchal system of ODEs. The derivation and analysis of the hierarchal system would provide an appealing generalization of Arsen’yev’s ODE and could be the basis
of further comparison with experimental data.
